Honor Code

Dear Parents and Students,

The Hebrew word for honor is Kavod. The word Kavod is also related to the word Kaved which means weighty. Honor is a weighty matter that needs to be considered seriously when dealing with individuals (Kavod of others, elders and parents), groups (Kavod haTzibur-Honoring the community), and worthy ideals (Kavod haTorah-respecting the Torah).

As part of a proactive look toward an even better year next year at YA, please review the link below to a sample honor code used by Emory University Law School. Many elements of their code are good ideas to incorporate into the drafting of a YA honor code.

Stakeholders in our school are asked to help us define and refine what it means to be a member of this school community by giving us input. It became clear after dealing with an out of school substance issue that there are some communal core values that need clarification.

We are taking feedback until the end of July before drafting the honor code that all members of our school community will have before entering next school year so there are agreed upon standards we can all be expected to uphold.

After reading the Emory sample honor code please e-mail all feedback to yahonorcode@gmail.com

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Elisha Paul
